The town’s name has its origin in both the Syriac and Arabic languages and means "the terebinth tree." Found there are some old sarcophagi cut into the rocks, animal and plant fossils, and an ancient tree known as "The Oak of Oum Al-Charatit."
Boutmeh is a locality of the caza of Chouf, located at the south-east of the town of Beiteddine, at 950 meters of altitude. It extends on more than 200 hectares, and is distant 10 kilometers of the administrative center of the caza, the town of Beiteddine, 45 kilometers of the administrative center of the mohafazat, the town of Baabda, and 50 kilometers of the Beirut capital. One counts there nearly 1500 registered inhabitants, including 900 voters. Its formed town council of 9 elected officials, is member of the Federation of the Municipalities of Chouf El Aala (High Chouf). Boutmeh is characterized by the presence from archaeological vestiges on its grounds, such as sarcophagi and troughs going up at the time Phoenician, and it also shelters forests of cedars.
